Birds of Prey Trade Paperback
Before you see the show get familiar with the comic book that inspired it. The Birds trade paperback reprints the original Birds of Prey comic book one-shots and mini-series. Now if only DC would reprint Birds of Prey #8, arguably the best issue of the series...

Batman: The Dark Knight Returns
Frank Miller's classic four-issue story about an older and bitter Batman made a lot more people take comics seriously. What would Batman do in the future? What if he made Superman angry? This is one of the definitive Batman stories, and a perfect primer for the book's sequel...

The Dark Knight Strikes Again, Vol. 1
Now, Frank Miller has brought out The Dark Knight Strikes Again, a sequel to his classic story involving older versions of MANY DC Comics heroes. At under $8, this book is well worth the money, and a perfect gift for someone who's never read a comic before. This is the first of three volumes of the series.

Dina Meyer Returns To TV With Point Pleasant
Fantastic news!

The FOX midseason TV drama Point Pleasant has added Dina Meyer (Barbara) to its cast.

Dina will play Amber, who is "a hot single mom who likes to stir up trouble in the beachside community" in this "soap opera with an otherworldly twist." The series will also star Grant Show (Melrose Place). Is it the year for former beautiful women from superhero shows teaming up with Melrose veterans or what?

Buffy's Marti Noxon is among one of the show's writers. We'll keep you updated when we hear of a premiere date.

Actor Updates!
Two important actor updates:

Summerland, starring Lori Loughlin (Black Canary) and Shawn Christian (Wade), will be returning to the WB schedule at some point in midseason.

Also in actor sighthing news, Shemar Moore (Det. Reese) has returned to daytime TV, on The Young and the Restless.

Ashley Scott Replaced On Joey
The Joey Tribbiani spinoff of Friends, which will be on Thursdays at 8PM on NBC this Fall, is saying goodbye to one of the Birds of Prey.

Ashley Scott (Helena) filmed a role as a neighbor character on the show's pilot; the role was to have been recurring. You can see publicity shots by clicking here. Unfortunately, NBC and the producers of Joey have chosen not to go with Ashley after all.

We are obviously disappointed in NBC's decision, and wish Ashley the best.

"Split" Guest In North Shore
Kristoffer Polaha, a guest star from the BOP episode "Split" who played Darkstrike, is the star of a new series on FOX titled North Shore which premieres on Monday, June 14. (We still think he should've been Nightwing!)

And on the subject of summer series... Don't forget that Tuesdays at 9PM on the WB, you can find Lori Loughlin (Black Canary) in Summerland, which has been off to a pretty good start so far.

New Batman Costume In Entertainment Weekly
A first look at Christian Bale's costume in the upcoming movie "Batman Begins" (due out in 2005) appeared in this week's edition of Entertainment Weekly.

It may not be Birds of Prey but hey, it is Batman related!

Lori Loughlin's Summerland Arrives On The WB Schedule
The new WB drama series Summerland, which features Lori Loughlin (Black Canary) and Shawn Christian (Wade) among its cast, will be premiering on Tuesday, June 1, on the WB.

The WB describes the series this way: "SUMMERLAND stars Loughlin as Ava Gregory, an ambitious woman with a close-knit circle of friends, a great house in a beautiful California beach town and a growing career as a fashion designer. The last thing on Ava's mind was settling down and starting a family. That all changed the day Ava's sister and brother-in-law were killed in an accident, leaving Ava to raise their three children."

If ratings for the summer run are good, Summerland could continue past the summer. (Then would it be Winterland? kidding)

Congratulations to Ashley for landing this very high-profile project.

Wizard Announcement Of Birds DVD A Hoax
Issue #151 of Wizard magazine, which went on sale on March 31, had Birds of Prey: The Complete First Series on their calendar as being released on April 1st, 2004.

What was not mentioned was that it was one of several April Fool's gags in the issue. Like, say, the Geoff Johns/Phil Jiminez Captain Carrot comic book announcement, the announcement of a Birds DVD coming out on April 1 is about as real as Dr. Quinzel's caring nature.

There are currently no plans for a DVD release of Birds of Prey, although we think such a thing would sell very well. Don't anyone get upset with Wizard - it was merely a joke, and sometimes jokes are taken a little too seriously in fandom.

We'll let you know if the situation ever changes.

Shemar Moore In Fall Pilot
Shemar Moore (Det. Reese) has joined the cast of the Fall 2004 UPN drama Nikki & Nora.

The show is about two lesbian private investigators, who are played by Christina Cox and Liz Vassey.

The pilot will be shooting soon, but there's no guarantee of the series being picked up. If it is, it will be on UPN this Fall.

Ashley Scott: Walking Tall
The website for the upcoming movie "Walking Tall," starring the Rock and featuring Ashley Scott (Helena), can be found at http://www.walkingtallmovie.com. The site is still apparently a work in progress.

B.J. tells us that WWE Confidential has done a featurette about the movie which may have already aired in some places, and Ashley Scott does appear, talking about her character of "Deni," who was the ex-girlfriend of the character played by the Rock. The show airs on Spike TV on Saturday nights; however, we cannot guarantee that they will be re-airing the "Walking Tall" segment.

Thanks to Rakesh for pointing us toward the movie's official site.

The Black Canary Speaks!
Gotham Clock Tower was able to catch up with former "Black Canary" Lori Loughlin at the TCA Winter 2004 Press Tour in Los Angeles, CA in January of this year. Lori was there to promote her new series Summerland, which premieres in June.

We asked if she was hoping to return as the Black Canary, who seemingly died in "Sins of the Mother." Here's what she had to say:

"I was. I was really bummed when the show got cancelled. I really was, because you thought she did but you were not sure, and they were planning on bringing me back. I was really bummed when it got cancelled."

When we asked if she was hoping to wear the costume, she said "Yes. I really wanted to do that," and although she hadn't read the comics before getting the part, she did look into it after taking the role.

Loughlin's upcoming series Summerland also stars Shawn Christian, who is known to BOP fans as "Wade," Barbara's doomed boyfriend, on Birds. "It's truly a different format than Birds of Prey, but I'd say check it out. I think it's got something for everybody," she tells us.

Actor Updates!
Thanks to the several people who have let us know some updates on some of the BOP cast...

- NEW! Dina Meyer (Oracle) will appear in a horror film called "Storyteller" in 2004. It also stars "Young Indy" Sean Patrick Flanery and "the kid from Kate & Allie" Frederick Koehler. Dina also recently had a recurring role on NBC's Miss Match alongside former Batgirl Alicia Silverstone, though we don't know if her role will be continuing. (Dina, are you still reading? Let us know...)
- NEW! Ashley Scott (Huntress) plays "Deni" in The Rock's new film, "Walking Tall." It is due to be released in theaters in April 2004. Ashley will also be in a movie called "Into The Blue" which also stars Paul Walker and Ashley's Dark Angel co-star Jessica Alba. She was rumored to be up for Wonder Woman, but nothing more has been heard about that in a while.
- NEW! Rachel Skarsten (Dinah) appeared on the December 6 episode of 1-800-MISSING. We're assuming Rachel is still involved with POV Sports.
- NEW! Ian Abercrombie (Alfred) provides the "voice of Brainiac" for the upcoming "Scooby Doo" sequel. We're assuming that's not the Brainiac. You may have seen him on an episode of FX's Nip/Tuck recently.
- Shemar Moore (Reese) will star in a CBS telepic called "Irreversible Errors," which will air at some point in 2004. You can also see him in a recent Old Navy commercial.
- Finally, Shawn Christian (Wade) and Lori Loughlin (the Black Canary) will be starring together in a WB series called Summerland which will premiere during the summer of 2004. The WB is using the strategy FOX used with The O.C. to introduce the show in mid-year. More details about that one when and if they become available.

Updated: Dina Meyer on Miss Match
The very beautiful and talented Dina Meyer (Oracle) has begun appearing on episodes of NBC's Miss Match starting with the November 21 episode. Supposedly the character is recurring, so be sure to watch Friday nights at 9PM on NBC to see!

We are very excited to have Dina back on our TV screens. Thanks to SullivanLane for the tip!

UPDATE: Dina will definitely be on the episodes airing on December 5 and December 12. Don't be surprised if she's on more. And hey, here's some trivia we hadn't noticed before - this story arc will team up the real live-action Batgirl (Dina) with the not-so-good one (Alicia Silverstone)! We admit we are slightly curious if the two of them have compared notes...

Ashley Scott Up For Wonder Woman?
Dark Horizons has revealed that Ashley Scott (Helena) is one of the leading contenders for the role of Wonder Woman in the upcoming movie. Sandra Bullock (bleh) and Eliza Dushku are also among those rumored.

Updating Again!
Birds of Prey is still cancelled, and it's definitely not coming back, but it was finally time to start posting updates to this site.

Birds, of course, was the short-lived Batman spin-off loosely based on the DC Comic of the same time. Sadly, it didn't achieve the success that Smallville did.

If you hear of any news about the current whereabouts of the Birds of Prey actors, we'll happily post those things. You're also welcome to post on the new KryptonSite Message Board about the Birds!

By the way, before you ask... there are currently no plans for a DVD release of Birds of Prey. We'll let you know when/if that changes.

Episode Guide Finally Up!
An episode guide for Birds of Prey is finally posted here at Gotham Clock Tower!

Dina Meyer Posts Her Farewell
Dina Meyer posted a farewell message at DinaMeyer.com where she had the following to say to Birds fans:

"I know how much you all have enjoyed the show. I enjoyed working on it- We will all miss it- However, on a lighter note... I am looking FORWARD to using my legs on the next project. Acting in a wheelchair, was probably the most challenging thing I've had to do, to date....(I kept wanting to get up and do the stunts!) Straightening my hair every day- was probably the second. (not really) I am happy to be moving on. (as is my hair- no more BLOWDRYING!) woo-hoo!! Bye for now- and keep in mind- the all-knowing, all-seeing Oracle is watching...."

Series Finale February 19!
The final two episodes -- ever -- of Birds of Prey will be airing on Wednesday night, February 19, 2003.

The night starts at 8PM with "Feat of Clay," an episode featuring one of Batman's former foes. This one also features a revelation about the killer of Catwoman, and it features startling developments that lead into the series finale!

Ah, the finale. That one is called "Devil's Eyes." In it Harley finds a way to make a mess out of New Gotham, and many of the plotlines from the show's short run are wrapped.

Of course you want some spoilers... so here you go... click here for more! Some new stuff is now added!

Be sure to encourage your friends to watch... wouldn't it be nice if the show went off with a decent audience? Hey, it might improve our chances for a DVD release, at least!

January 8 Ratings
Here's a look at the overnight ratings for the two episodes of Birds of Prey which aired on Wednesday night, January 8.

Of course, again some major WB stations chose to show sports instead of the show, hurting the ratings. The Bachelorette premiere wasn't much help, either. Either way the series had several ratings lows, surely also not helped by the lack of promotion of the two-hour event.

Sung Hi Lee Talks "Lady Shiva"
Sung Hi Lee, who will be playing "Lady Shiva" in the episode of the same name, posted some details about her appearance on Birds of Prey on her official website. Here's what she had to say:

"What a wonderful cast and crew!!! It turns out that the DP and I had worked together on Mortal Kombat and it's been nice to work with an old friend. The director has such vision with this episode and our scenes have been going very smoothly. Ashley Scott, who plays Huntress/Helena, is such a cutie pie!!! She is from South Carolina and has that wonderful southern warmth...and soooooo funny! She's been a joy to work with and I look forward to a long friendship with her. As for the rest of the family, and they are a family, what a terrific group of people. They have been so welcoming to me, fun to hang out with, and I know that I will keep in touch with many of them after I've long gone from working on the show. The hours are long (sometimes 16 hours) and the nights cold (we shoot a lot at night outdoors), but I wouldn't trade one moment of the experience."

Thanks to Anh for passing that along! For more "Lady Shiva" details, including an episode description, click here!

"Split" Bad Guy: Brian Thompson!
Playing "The Crawler" on the "Split" episode of Birds of Prey is a man by the name of Brian Thompson.

You may recognize him, however, from appearances on Buffy the Vampire Slayer (in multiple vampire roles, usually) and on The X-Files.
